Goldfish
The
Fabulous Dorothy of Elmo’s World
Dorothy, Elmo’s trusty friend is six years old in
goldfish years. Elmo has the magic ability to understand Dorothy through her
fish bowl; she is an important part of most segments. Typically when a new idea
is presented in a segment Dorothy imagines Elmo in each scenario; when she does
this an image from Dorothy’s imagination appears for the audience to see. She
was first introduced in 1988 and she also appeared in Sesame Street in 2000; which proved that she was not a figment of
Elmo’s imagination. In books or as toys, Dorothy is represented with
unrealistic characteristics like eyelashes and womanly features.
